Only Ten want her fired?

WASHINGTON – Ten Republican senators have called on President Obama to fire Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who is overseeing the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and its troubled website.

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and nine other senators told Obama they were concerned not only with the botched rollout of healthcare.gov, but the implementation of the broader law, which they all oppose. Dozens of House Republicans have also pushed for Sebelius’ dismissal.

“While assurances have been made that solutions are forthcoming, we have little confidence that immediate resolution is imminent,” the senators said in a letter to the president Thursday. “We believe that action must be taken swiftly to protect the American people from further fallout. If a similar rollout from any other national company or private-sector business resulted in overwhelming and sustained problems, a high-profile dismissal would be expected and appropriate.”

After a group of veterans “stormed” the barricaded World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, other WWII veterans groups are planning to visit the same site on Wednesday — which only exists because of their service. Meanwhile, another Honor Flight group in Ohio is claiming that the Park Service threatened to arrest its members if they entered the closed memorial during their planned visit on Oct. 9 (assuming the government is still “shut down”).

Andrea Plunkett, a volunteer with the Kansas City-area Heartland Honor Flight, told TheBlaze the group plans to bring about 90 veterans to the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. She said the WWII veterans would arrive at around 11 a.m. with a delegation about about 12 U.S. senators and representatives. The group plans to breach the barricades.

She also said another Missouri flight from Franklin County should be arriving at the same time.

“When we heard the news this morning about the barricades being erected at the memorials, dozens of people started helping us try to find a solution,” she told TheBlaze. “Both Kansas and Missouri officials have been incredibly responsive– we heard back from Senator [Roy] Blunt, [Claire] McCaskill, [Pat] Roberts and [Jerry] Moran’s offices right away. Several members of Congress have been involved as well.”

Plunkett said canceling their flight was not an option because an Honor Flight can cost “upwards of $80,000.

“Our next flight isn’t until Spring of 2014, and waiting is not an option for many of these vets. Between 600-900 WWII vets die each day, so when it comes to Honor Flights, time is of the essence,” she said. “These veterans can’t wait on the government.”

Shockingly, an Honor Flight group from Toledo, Ohio, was allegedly threatened with arrest if they entered the closed memorial, setting up a possible showdown between vets and the government.

Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio was told by the Park Service that individuals in the group would face arrest if they entered the closed memorial, Lee Armstrong, the group’s president, claims.

Armstrong was stunned.

“I said, are you kidding me? You’re going to arrest a 90/91-year-old veteran from seeing his memorial? If it wasn’t for them it wouldn’t be there. She said, ‘That’s correct sir,’” Armstrong told WNWO-TV.

It is unclear whether the Park Service official, who reportedly refused to provide her name hung up, was relaying official policy.

Plunkett told TheBlaze Heartland Honor Flight hadn’t even considered the possibility of arrest prior to being made aware of the report.

“All of our vets are in their late 80′s and early 90′s,” she said. “That would be quite a scene.”

The current plan is to arrive at the WWII monument in Washington and simply go through the barricades so they can honor their fellow veterans, which is exactly what happened on Tuesday.

Veterans Arrested for Not Leaving the World War II Memorial

Illegal aliens and their sympathizers will be allowed to march on the Mall in Washington.

But America’s military veterans are not allowed to visit our war memorials.

 This is Barack Obama’s America, folks. Our government arrests heroes and lets lawbreakers run free.

Police: Black man kills white soldier in possible hate crime

(CNN) — A white U.S. soldier who friends say was celebrating his pending departure from the Army was fatally stabbed by at least one black assailant over the weekend in a racially charged confrontation, police in Washington state said.

Spc. Tevin A. Geike, 20, of Summerville, South Carolina, died after being stabbed early Saturday in Lakewood, not far from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he was based, according to base officials.

Police are trying to determine who killed Geike, who they said was walking with two other soldiers in Lakewood after 2 a.m. Saturday when someone in a passing car yelled a comment about the three being white.

One of the soldiers, Brian Johnson, told CNN affiliate KIRO that someone in the car yelled “something like ‘white’ and ‘cracker.’ ”

The third soldier, Matthew Barnes, told KIRO that he yelled back: “So this is how we treat combat veterans now?”

The vehicle turned around and stopped, and five black men appearing to be in their mid-20s got out, police said.

The groups exchanged words, and the driver called off his friends when he realized the three were soldiers, police said. But as the five retreated to the car, one appeared to bump into Geike, who fell as the five sped away in the car, Geike’s companions told police.

Geike had been stabbed. Barnes said Geike died in his arms.

“I’m sitting here holding him, trying to stop the bleeding with my right hand and calling 911 in my left, trying … to get them here,” Barnes told KIRO. “Right before I got off the phone, I couldn’t feel a heartbeat anymore, and he was gone.”

Investigators are trying to determine whether to classify the stabbing as a hate crime, Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler told the News Tribune of Tacoma.

NBC: Authorities originally believed there was a lone gunman, but sources later confirmed to News4 that the shooting was carried out by at least two gunmen.


USA TODAY – The shooter was described as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 5’10” to 6 feet tall, 170 pound with a black shirt and black hat. He is believed to be barricaded somewhere and have multiple guns.

ST. PETERSBURG – Even as he makes his case on Syria to world leaders gathered at an international summit here, President Obama plans to call lawmakers back in Washington to urge them to vote to authorize a military strike in Syria.

Obama will be doing outreach to key lawmakers on Capitol Hill during his two-day visit to Russia for the Group of 20 summit, deputy national security adviser Benjamin J. Rhodes told reporters here Thursday.On Wednesday, during his visit to Sweden, Obama made five calls to a bipartisan group of senators as part of the administration-wide effort to lobby lawmakers on Syria, Rhodes said.

Wonder if Obama will Pardon the Jacksons?

Both Jacksons get prison terms

 

WASHINGTON – Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. was sentenced today to 30 months behind bars and his wife, Sandi, got a year in prison for separate felonies involving the misspending of about $750,000 in campaign funds.

In addition to the 2.5 years in prison, Jackson Jr. was sentenced to three years of supervised release. Sandi Jackson was ordered to serve 12 months of supervised release following her prison term.

The judge emphasized that Sandi Jackson was sentenced to exactly 12 months, not the year-and-a-day sentence that some criminals get. Defendants sentenced to a year or less cannot qualify for time off for good behavior in prison. But those sentenced to a year and a day can qualify, which means they may end up serving only about 10 months. Under this rule, Sandi Jackson must serve the full year.

Both Jacksons wept in court as they addressed the judge before sentencing.

Jackson Jr. apologized for his crimes and expressed special regrets to his mother and father.
