When will Obama end up on Mount Rushmore?

First Posted: May 27, 2013 01:48 PM EDT

Regardless of what some may think about his politics or even performance as our nation’s Commander in Chief and as “leader of the Free World,” President Barack Obama will inarguably leave an indelible mark on the annals of history as a truly singular entity. His role as our nation’s first African American president and his attempt to be a more intimate presence in the lives of all Americans has earned him the respect of a great deal of our populace, if not the scorn of those who would deride his liberal stances and occasional backsliding with various key issues such as the recent spate of wars in the Middle East.

No matter what his critics might feel about his presidency, according to one-third of the professors recently surveyed at Washington DC’s prestigious George Washington University, Obama’s face may in fact end up being forever memorialized alongside Abraham Lincoln and his ilk on the rocky scales of Mount Rushmore.

Being that George Washington University has in the past been ranked in the Top 10 as regards both “Best in the Northeast” and “Most Politically Active,” according to traditional college rankings arbiter Princeton Review (as well as being the alma mater of the likes of former Secretary of State Colin Powell), it’s indeed worth noting that three of the 10 history/political science professors questioned by the Student Free Press Association’s College Fix said that though it may be too early to see Obama grinning back to us from Mount Rushmore, it’s something that is quite likely … eventually.

“Historical judgments take time to form and Obama is still in office,” George Washington University history professor Edward Berkowitz wrote in an email to the College Fix. “It could be that he will be one of the great presidents, worthy of having his likeness carved on a mountain, but certainly not yet.”

Berkowitz was not alone in his optimism about Obama’s likeness ending up on Mount Rushmore. No less than George Washington University’s chairman of the political science department, Professor Paul Wahlbeck, agrees.

“History undoubtedly will accord President Obama a special place by virtue of being the first African American President,” Wahlbeck said.

Calling All Patriots: Million Veteran March On The D.C. Memorials October 13th

Posted by Rachel Pulaski on Saturday, October 5, 2013, 1:52 PM

A new rally is forming, “Million Vet March On The Memorials” that will be held 9am October 13, 2013 at the war memorials in Washington D.C.

The group is fed up with veterans being used as political pawns and are calling all patriots to attend, via their facebook page:

We are all military brats, current and former military spouses and some veterans. We cannot express how utterly disappointed we were that our Greatest Generation were being used as political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis. This should never be the case.
We do not care what political leanings you may be; be it liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent or whatever. The actions of the U.S. government this week with regard to barricading and shutting down the World War II Memorial to veterans, that may or may not be on their last trip to Washington DC, is a despicable act of cowardice.
Veterans this week were unwillingly pitted as pawns in this crisis. We feel that this should never be the case. This is why we will go to Congress after the budget crisis and ask for a bill to be introduced that would prevent any member of the government from closing our memorials down to any American, except for maintenance purposes. In the meantime, we will have our March in Washington DC on October 13th! Our veterans deserve that!
Many in our group have decided that enough is enough. We are Americans. We are proud of our heritage and our service. As all of us were military brats and spouses, we have served in some form or another our entire lives. This is our way of life. We will not stand by and let the U.S. government dishonor the legacy of sacrifice of the generations before us. It is time to make a stand! We hope that you will join us in our peaceful protest against anti-American policies.

The group also has a website, click here for more information.

Get ready to join a million vets in Washington DC and online! The Administration has closed down war memorials that are normally open 24/7 and that do not have any staff to guard them under normal circumstances.

NBC’s Pete Williams Identifies Navy Yard Gunman As Aaron Alexis, 34, of Ft. Worth, TX

NBC News reporter Pete Williams identified one of the gunman who attacked the Washington Navy Yard on Monday morning as Aaron Alexis, 34, of Ft. Worth, Texas. Alexis was killed at the scene, but police have asked for Washington D.C. residents to remain on the lookout for two additional suspects.

“There’s only one confirmed gunman and authorities say he’s 34-year-old Aaron Alexis of Fort Worth, Texas,” Williams reported. “That he had just recently begun working as a civilian contractor for the Navy.

Williams noted that reports indicate Aaron infiltrated the highly secure facility by using the identification of a current employee of the facility who has not yet been identified.
“What his motive was is a long way from determined,” Williams continued.

Million Muslim March Attendees Confronted by Christian Protesters on National Mall

(not to mention near a million bikers…..)

'Two Million Bikers' to D.C.: Chopper Video

Attendees at a sparsely attended Million Muslim March were met with protests by a small group of Christians on the National Mall Wednesday.

U.S. Park Police are keeping the group of protesters back. Several are displaying signs with messages such as “Muhammad is a liar” and were yelling to the Muslim attendees, reported News4’s Mark Segraves.

About 25 people — including activist Cornel West — were at the march as of 12:30 p.m., Segraves reported.

Organizers from the American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC) say they are “patriotic Muslims” who are demanding new laws to protect their First Amendment rights.
