If this author were a bettin’ man, which he ain’t, he’d bet there’s a good reason for this to suddenly come to the forefront of things that make you say “Hmmmmm”.
As a survivalist and prepper I’d say that we have been “prepared” for many decades for nuclear detonation to occur within the bounds and lands of the United States. Either accidental or a purposeful attack by an adversary. While it is unlikely such an event will occur any time soon, there is nothing preventing a Jihadi from gaining access to a nuclear device and setting it off with in the CONUS.
Pakistan has nukes. The French have nukes. England has nukes. Allegedly the Israelis have nukes. The USA has nukes scattered about the world for an armed response to Russia or China doing the unthinkable. Life is not sacred to some, especially adherents to Islam. In fact, life to them for others, is cheap. One slave or infidel is just as cheap as the next.
A terrorist with a nuke is the most likely scenario the government has for a random nuke going off in the wild out there. North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un is the second most likely candidate.
Do I personally think there is going to be a nuclear attack? No, not at all. But, this kind of training is important, maintaining medical and military protocols, and Emergency Management skills are essential at ANY governmental level, and even a public level.
If you’re not prepared for a disaster, you will most likely be one of the people to die in it. That’s just the odds.
